The talbiyah

The talbiyah

The talbiyah is the call of the pilgrim: Labbayk Allahumma labbayk. Here I am, O Allah, here I am. You recite it after the intention, and from that moment you are in ihram.

How to recite it

Brothers recite the talbiyah aloud, three times at first and then often, and sisters recite it quietly. You must recite it at least once after the intention for Umrah to be in ihram. Keep it on your tongue while you are travelling, sitting, standing, going up or down, when you hear others recite it, on waking and before you sleep. Keep reciting it until you begin tawaf.

Why it matters

The talbiyah joined to the intention is what makes you a muhrim, so the ihram sheets alone are not enough. Read the intention for Umrah and what ihram is.

The talbiyah

Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. All praise and all blessing are Yours, and all dominion. You have no partner.
